Three Little Hens

I spy a little black hen looking at you! I just love this little guy. What a goofy face. Do you want to see the rest of him?

He looks like a pear! (Well...perhaps I shouldn't laugh. I look vaguely pear-like these days, too.)

I wanted to show you a little bit more of my doodle-y machine quilting. Click on the picture to see better detail. On this one, I doodle/quilted in some single flower motifs in red. I used a turquoise thread to make the flower "petals" on the egg flowers. Then I re-threaded my machine with orangey-yellow variegated thread and filled in the rest with more doodles. To make things interesting, I used a few different fill patterns, including my famous "flaming vine with doodle berries" in the border. That's difficult to see in this picture, unless you click on it to see the enlarged version. I wish I had taken a better picture before I sent it off.

Here's the whole quilt. It was long and skinny, so it was difficult to take a picture of.

The entire piece was machine pieced, machine appliqued, and machine quilted. The pattern is from Lisa Bergene's book, which I just adore. There are some wonderful patterns in this book, including a cute little witch that I will get to someday. Really...I will. Perhaps after the holiday doilies...but certainly before the tea party doily.

Hi Lisa! I love this quilt! I´ve bought two Lisa Bergene´s books too. I can hardly wait to sew some of those items I´ve seen in her books!!! I think hen is a very good motif for many kind of handcrafts!
Sunny weather here. Perfect for skiing cross-country!

I have that book and that pattern is one of the reasons that I bought the book! Of course, I haven't made it yet. On my 'to do' list!!! Love the quilting!

Adorable! I'm still trying to fathom how you machine quilt with the feed dogs up, really fast. It looks great, Lisa.

The chicken is so funky! Just the way I like them! I also was inspired by your quilting. Very nice job! You, my friend, have given me some great ideas in the quilting department!
I'm still going strong on the no sugar-flour thing! How about you? I did respond back but I may have screwed up when I sent it? What a dork I am!!! I'll check in on you tomorrow!

LOVE your quirky chickens, and thanks for the visual details on the quilting.

The doilies? My word - I'm not a crocheter but like you, have marveled at the complexity of starting with plain ole string!

Those chickens are just too adorable! While I'm not a chicken fan, I can certainly appreciate the workmanship and the whimsy! Send some sun our way...still cold and rainy - 7 inches of rain so far since yesterday...flood conditons!

I'll say it again, your work is fabulous. I sure wish I had the motivation to try quilting, even if it's just a small sampler of some kind. Maybe one day. Until then, I shall live vicariously through all your lovely quilts. Aloha!

LOL, there are so many things that will be done before I tackle anything like a teapot doily, too! Oh, you do make me laugh!

I love your chicken quilt! You are such an inspiration!

I think that somehow I did something weird when I tried to leave my email addy the other day. I am now subscribed to the comments on your String Theory post. Um, tis nice to have a link to your blog come in my email, but um... not quite what I was trying to do, lol... so anyhow, until I get a blog set up, here is my addy.

And yanno, take out the spaces--they're only there to keep the spam-crawlers from catching me... now isn't that something when spam crawls faster than I do, and I have to defeat it by subterfuge? *wink*
