A Pouchy Day

It's Spring and I think I have Spring fever. Oh, not the kind you get when you're twenty--the kind you get when you're nearly fifty. No, not the Mrs. Robinson kind, the crafty kind...you know, when you just can't seem to settle on one project to make? I have to decide between starting one of two quilts, one of three knitting projects, one of a dozen crochet projects, and heaven only knows what I'll come up with for dinner. I'm a crafty deer in project headlights!

So what do I do when I need to make a decision? Why, avoid it all costs, of course. So today, instead of choosing between long term quilting projects, I made short term pouches.

I know you're getting sick hearing about my current love affair with zippers, but I just can't help myself. I want to put everything I own in a pouch and zip it up all cozy and snug and out of view. It must be some kind of psychological disease--Zipaholia? Pouchamania? Zippopouchitis?

I think I have a case of Buttonophilia, too. I layered three on this pouch:
And look what fits perfectly in my pouch! All my double point needles that I'm acquiring without having made a single hat or mitten yet because I'm too busy making pouches.
Here's a cute red one I made with mouse fabric! And a cat button, of course. This is one of the buttons my friend Anne sent me from Finland. He looks like he's playing coy with those mousies.
And why looka here. This pouch holds all my circulars.
Hmmm. Perhaps I was a kangaroo in a former life.
Actually, I think I may be done with my series of knitting pouches. I think I've already made some small pouches for my stitch markers and my cable needles. Yep, this could be it. NO....WAIT! What about these poor exposed babies????
These can wait. I bought almost all of these at my local thrift shop (yes...the pairs are matched correctly...I checked...sigh....). I bought them when I first started knitting, but quickly decided that I like knitting on circulars so much better than knitting on straights. Straights and I don't fit in my easy chair at night...circulars and I fit so much better. So these will wait. Besides, I like the little bouquet arrangement of these, don't you?
Tomorrow, I think we should get out of the house. Let's go on a field trip, eh? Here's a sneak preview:

See you tomorrow!

The pouches are great! And must look very very nice on the shelf, or where you keep them?!
I understand the eagerness to put zippers in everything. It's a great thing on so many levels. As you say, it makes for a nice, closed finish, so whatever you are storing is out of view, but lets not forget, it's also an accomplishment to sew a zipper into something and have it be nice and flat like yours!
If I could do that, everything in my house would have zippers in it!
And you know, I may have to learn, Viola hates buttons with a passion! She flat out refuses to put something on if it has a button, even if it's just for decoration (the button, that is). Very strange!

I love the pouches and the buttons! Is it your own pattern? I agree, the pouches are the perfect way to store knitting needles.

I love the cat pouches, especially the one with the cat button! That is fabulous!! I liked your deer in headlight adage, maybe that should become a crafty t-shirt. I feel like that so I'll just continue my rippling.

Oh love the red pouch. I shy away from zippers .. guess I just don't know how to install them so they come out nice. Looking forward to the field trip.

The pouches are great. I would love one for traveling, but alas, I have zipperphobia. I know I need to get over it and just try again.

Tropical field trip, yeah, I put on summer dress and shoes and follow you,not outside where it is still so cold that ice scratching is a daily morning routine. LLAP

Lisa,
How on Earth did you fall in love with zippers? I try to avoid them at all costs. Did you find a special tutorial or just practice enough to where you got comfortable putting them in? I have some very cute skirt patterns that I would love to make but they require zippers! Thanks for posting so often, always brightens my quite boring day to read your blog posts!

I have zipophobia. In 40+ years, I have never sewn in a zipper...ever. I have a serious fear of them. They rank up there with your giant centipedes.

Zippers scare the bejeebers out of me. I avoid zipper projects like the plague! I wonder if there's a zipper class anywhere around? LOL

yeah...i'd say you've got it bad for the bags...but they sure are cute!
guess what...its snowing again until tomarrow a.m.
and was just beginning to see a bit of "green" grass. the blueberries were poking half way thru the snow; most of the raspberries were free of the snow. i am really looking forward to spring darn it. lots of birds coming back...we have to put seed on the ground for the poor robins...the worms are under the snow under the ground...soon, spring will be here or so they say

I just re-discovered your blog through Mar's Pincushion Diaries, so I'm afraid you can expect some comments on the last month's posts. I think you might get your fill of zippers at http://www.zipperpurse.ca/index.php I saw one at a local store, and had to unzip it all the way. *sheesh* (It really does open up to "A" zipper!) Anyway, these puppies are heavy!
